In an ideal world our bodies would always have the proper amount of every vitamin, mineral and nutrient that we need. But in real life very few people have optimal levels. Optimal levels of essential nutrients are affected by one’s diet, digestion, and absorption of nutrients through the lining of the intestines. For many patients these processes are not optimal. In addition, many of us eat food grown in soil that is depleted of an ideal nutrient mixture. Optimal nutrient concentration in our bodies is essential to support our immune system, heart, brain, and other internal organs. It also affects our ability to heal, our mood, and our ability to resist diseases like heart disease and cancer. Our comprehensive diagnostic testing will reveal which essential nutrients you are lacking. We will then recommend “nutraceuticals” supplements to restore optimal levels.
Supplements are graded from worst to best with the following terms: Veterinary grade (obviously not used in humans), Commercial grade, Pharmaceutical grade and Medical grade. Nutraceutical (“Pharmaceutical or Medical Grade”) supplements are the highest quality supplement option, and these are only supplements Dr. Center recommends for his patients. Many consumers purchase supplements by price, not realizing that the inexpensive supplements contain fillers and may or may not contain enough of the essential ingredient to provide any benefit. Important things to consider regarding supplements are the form, bioavailability, purity, and grade – as well as third party verifications. Our nutraceutical grade supplements provide the highest level of purity and absorption.
Supplements are one aspect of your overall wellness plan, which also includes dietary guidance, hormone therapy if needed, and other therapies. Dr. Stephen Center and BodyLogicMD of San Diego’s nutritionist will carefully evaluate your medical history, lifestyle, and lab results and recommend a customized dietary plan for you, along with specific supplement recommendations. Lindsey Mueller is BodyLogicMD of San Diego’s experienced, functional nutritionist. She advises our clients and actively participates in their ongoing care.
